Murray disagrees with Nadal’s seeding in Wimbledon

Following the current rank, Rafa will be seed no.5 in Wimbledon. This is certainly in great contrast with the real world as the King of Clay is definitely the man to beat in this very moment.

This concept is also underpinned by the year to date ranking as Nadal is comfortably the world no.1 with 2000pts above Djokovic.

From Murray

Murray intervenes to say that there is something wrong in the ranking system to state “Rafa will be seeded five, which is tough because he is better than that. It is the way our ranking system works.”

2 years’ rank

Then the Scott added  “That is unfortunately the way the ranking system works in tennis. It is a one-year ranking, whereas in something like golf it is a two-year ranking.

Even if one of the best players gets injured, they can still maintain their ranking. In tennis, if you miss four or five months, it is almost impossible to maintain your ranking.”

We agree with Andy, but it’s really difficult to find a solution. In fact, the actual ranking system penalizes great comebacks like Nadal’s, but a 2 years’ ranking system would give too much help on players that are declining and it would penalize too much upcoming players.

This is a difficult one…
