What a performance!
Tomas was practically trashed by Nole to be 1 game away to lose with a humiliating 6-2 6-2. Then the unthinkable happened. Then Czech got back and Nole melted down.
It’s difficult to comment this match as it’s so uncharacteristic from a warrior such as Djokovic to let go a match like this. Nole was in full control of the match to then start to commit an array of unforced errors when he was 5-3 up. This gace the opportunity to Tomas to get back a win the second set 7-5 (winning 5 consecutive games!).
The decider was pretty close. The difference between the two was just one break for the Czech that finally won the match 2-6 7-5 6-4.
From Berdych
“One day you have to break and I am happy that it was today,” commented an elated Berdych.
“It was a great game and I am happy. I was trying to stay positive from the beginning. He didn’t give me a single chance. I was trying to stay there and there are matches when you don’t get a single chance, but then if you get one, then you are ready. Then everything could turn the other way and this is what happened.”
From Nole
“I lost concentration and started to play more defensively. I had a bad game at 5-3 and I made some unforced errors. At this level you have to take advantage of the opportunities and I lost this game by myself.” said a disappointed Djokovic.
The semis vs Rafa
Berdych will play the semifinal against Rafael Nadal that has defeated (one again) Ferrer 6-4 4-6 6-2. Head to head is 13-3 for Rafa (4-0 on clay) that has won the last 12 matches against Tomas.
