Great, great victory from a very consistent Tomic.
This one was a battles of nerves and services. Bernard basted 19 aces and Richard 15. Both played a very good service games to be broken only once (Tomic in the second set, Gasquet in the third).
Eventually Bernard’s victory came as he was better than the Frenchman in two tight tiebreaks. Gasquet won 13 points more than Tomic (160 to 147), but then it was the Australian to advance to the next round.

Next vs. Berdych
Bernard will play Tomas Berdych in the next round. The Czech has defeated Kevin Anderson 3-6 6-3 6-4 7-5 in the third round. This is the first time these two are playing an official match. The have played only an exibition this year in Kooyong and it was Tomic to win 4-6 6-3 6-4.
