That was a tricky one from Sloane.
The young American was expected to have an easy life against the 196th-ranked qualifier, but that wasn’t the case.
After winning the opener at the breaker, Sloane lost 8 consecutive (and terrible) games to find her self coping with a 0-2 deficit in the ecider. The American regrouped to win the third set 6-4.
From Sloane
A happy Sloane commented “My consistency has been good,’ she said. ‘I played the Slams well. I’m excited to be in the second week again. Playing well, feeling good, I guess that’s always a good thing.”
Next vs. Puig
The American will play Monica Puig from Portugal that produced an amazing upset in the first round to defeat seed no.5 Sara Errani 6-3 6-2. This will be the first offcial match between these two at a professional level.
