The world no.1 and the mega favorite to win the title crashes out at the hands of a brilliant Sabine Lisicki (world no.24)
After losing the first set 6-2, Serena bounced back in style to demolish Sabine in the second set (6-1) and to lead the third 3-1 40-15. Game over? It looked so, but that wasn’t the case! Serena started to become human and Sabine lifted her tennis to higher levels to give us a very exciting match.
At the end of the decider the tension was huge with Serena almost unable to display her trademark tennis (at moments she was just playing slow shots in the middle of the court) and Sabine trying to go for it (we say “trying” because the tension was unreal).
Finally the German won the 3rd set 6-4 with a huge help of the crowd.

“I definitely had my opportunities and I didn’t take them. I definitely feel that I backed off a little bit at some points. I definitely feel I could have gone for it a little more on some of the shots. Sabine played really well. But there’s huge room for improvement for me.” said Serena

A super elated and emotional Sabine commented “I am still shaking, I am so happy. It is an amazing feeling to win this match. This is such a special place for me and the crowd were brilliant to me. I gave it everything I had, I fought for every single point to try to win it somehow.”
