Roger Federer will skip the 2021 Australian Open. The Swiss sensation had to endure 2 knee operations in 2020. The second intervention (June) was due because there was a setback after the first one.

Roger sounded optimistic about his recovery in the recent months, however, he acknowledged that he was probably behind schedules. The problem for him was reaching a condition that would allow him to play at the very top for more than 2 hours to try to get deep in slams.
Roger’s manager Tony Godsick commented:
“Roger has decided not to play the 2021 Australian Open. He has made strong progress in the last couple of months with his knee and his fitness. However, after consultation with his team, he decided that the best decision for him in the long run is to return to competitive tennis after the Australian Open,” said in a statement released to AP.
Federer’s schedules
Since it appears that Roger is fit to compete in 2 hours’ matches it is more and more plausible that he will start his comeback in an ATP500 event like Rotterdam (1st of March) or Dubai (15th of March). Federer’s objective is to be fully fit for Wimbledon, the Olympics and the US Open. Here the upcoming ATP Schedules. Godsick said that they are about to start to build up Federer’s schedules. The targets are the tournaments the will start by the end of February.

Ranked no.5, Federer played his last match on the 30th of January when he was overcome by Novak Djokovic 7-61 6-4 6-3 in the semifinal of the Australian Open (draw).
This season Federer has a compiled 5-1 record. Roger Federer’s latest run at the Australian Open was the best achievement of his season.
