Wow.. what a stint fro Simona!
The talented Romanian won her first career title last month in Nuremberg, then the second… last month again( ‘s-Hertogenbosch) … and the third… just now!
To be fair, Simona didn’t have to face impossible players at this tournaments. In fact, she didn’t lost a set till the final and in the semis she had to defeat the world no.70 Alexandra Canatadu (from Romania as well) and world no.86 Yvonne Meusburger from Austria in the final, but winning in Budapest was still a great achievement.
The final became a bit tricky in the second set. In fact, even if Simona was able to recover from a 3-5 deficit, she squandered 3 match points to then win the match in the third set.
From Simona
“it was a very difficult match because Yvonne played very well, especially in the second set when I also made a lot of mistakes. Then I changed tactics, applied more drop shots and that worked.” said the Romanian.
