Federer reaches the semifinal in Hamburg

That was a real battle.

Roger was leading Mayer 4-0 without losing a set in the previous encounters. But Mayer is a very unpredictable player that is capable of upset anybody.

Both players started really well with Roger winning a very tight opener at the tiebreak. The Florian bounced back to get an early 4-1 lead in the second and to bring the match at the decider.

In the third set Roger had always the upper hand to break twice the German and to be broken back all the time. The decisive break came in the 11 game that gave to Roger a 6-5 lead. Then the Swiss hold serve to gt to the final 4.

Roger: Down to the Wire

The Maestro commented “It was extremely difficult. I started really well. I thought we were both hitting the ball well in the first set and not giving each other that many chances. It went down to the wire. I’m happy I played a good tie-break.

I should have been up early with a break in the second set; he got me there. It was a bit of a rollercoaster till the very end of the match. Just had to tough it out.”

Semis vs. Delbonis

Roger will play a surprising Delbonis in the semi final. The Argentine qualifier (ranked world no. 114) is playing the best tournament of his life as he has also defeated Robredo in the second round and Verdasco in the quarterfinal.
