Roger Federer had a rather tricky year. The Swiss sensation had to undergo 2 operations on his knee after he played the Australian Open. The result was that the Swiss legend had to skip the rest of this battered season. While Roger admitted that there were some setbacks after his first operation, he was also happy to share that there were no problems for him to recover after the second procedure.
Many expected the 20-time slam champion to be back for the Australian Open, probably recalling when he won the slams in 2017 when back from yet another operation. However, unfortunately, that seems to be quite unplausible after his recent revelations. During his speech at the Switzerland Sport Awards, the Swiss icon admitted that he may not be ready for the Australian slam. Roger may have some chances as the major was delayed by 3 weeks because of the Coronavirus pandemic, but as per his own words, it’s a race against time.
“I would have hoped that I would be 100% in October. But I am still not today. It will be tight for the Australian Open. It’s a race against time for the Australian Open. I’m curious to see whether it will start on February 8. Of course, it would help if I had a bit more time,” commented Roger.
Federer also confirmed that his priorities are Wimbledon, the Olympics and the US Open. Roger won the Australian Open on 6 occasions. The strong impression is that Roger will not take a chance to rush and play in Melbourne. He will turn 40 in the upcoming August, and age is not on his side anymore.
