Federer may not play the Masters in Montreal for a serious back injury

It’s a bad moment for Roger. The Swiss Maestro is sinking in the rankings (now world no.5) and it seems that a big part of it is coming from his back pain. Roger says it’s serious.

Seeing Roger on the court, it’s rather clear that is not free to play with a sort of “mental freedom”. He is slow and he wants finish the points as soon as possible to avoid to complicate his injury.

Roger has been struggling with his back formever. Once he even admitted that he had many doubts when he won his first Wimbledon back in 2003 because of his problems. Usually the pain comes and goes… but it seems that that is not happening anymore. The pain is still there.

Roger:  Can’t really practise…

“In the last 7-10 days I could hardly practise, this made it difficult to prepare properly. I decided to play so it’s no excuse,” said the Maestro.

… not sure to play in Montreal…

“My presence in Montreal is far from assured, I first need to take care of my back. It is a serious injury. The pain is less than Indian Wells (last March). But I will have to heal through exercises and treatment.” He added.

… my injury is the priority

“My presence in Montreal is far from assured, I first need to take care of my back. It is a serious injury. The pain is less than Indian Wells. But I will have to heal through exercises and treatment.

I will have to do a lot of exercises and see how it all feels. My main priority now is to fix my back. I would love to be able to train at 100 per cent,”
