Stefanos Tsitsipas and his father, Apostolos, share a special relationship. While many are used to see them competing for the big titles, it is easy to forget that they managed to get to that position after facing many difficult moments. Stefanos has often stated that they were struggling with money, but they decided to embark on his marvelous career despite the financial insecurity.
Apostolos coaching Stefanos and their moments.
Apostolos has been Stefanos’ main coach forever. However, last year they were caught having a couple of “nasty” exchanges in the heat of the moment but that doesn’t mean that their relationship is dysfunctional. During the ATP Cup, Stefanos accidentally hurt his father with the racket when he lost his cool when facing his friend Nick Kyrgios.
During his US Open match against Borna Coric, Stefanos had another moment against his father when he shouted at him: “You don’t know!”
Eventually, Apostolos didn’t follow his son in Rome on the occasion of the Internazionali d’Italia. In Italy, Tsitsipas lost his opening to Jannik Sinner playing horrible tennis also struggling with injury.
Tsitsipas’ dad and his love for Stefanos
Despite these unfortunate episodes, Stefanos’ relationship with his father is still rather special. During a recent interview, Apostolos revealed:
“Stefanos is a charismatic child. He really listens and tries hard every day for many years to achieve his goals. He listens carefully to each coach and believes that he can learn something from everyone.
Our cooperation is completely harmonious, and it is my pleasure to work with Stefanos because I love him, as I love my other children.”
Stefanos is currently getting ready to be back and play the new season. The Greek sensation spent some time in London to recover from his injury using the so-called Tecar therapy.
