Stefanos Tsitsipas didn’t have the run he was hoping for in 2020. The Coronavirus pandemic definitely stopped the Greek sensation, but he was also struggling with his body by the end of the season. However, Stefanos is already preparing for the new year, and he will have the chance to defend the only title he conquered in 2020 in Marseille. In France, Stefanos conquered his 5th title after beating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final.
Originally, in 2021 the ATP250 was scheduled to take place on February the 15th. Nevertheless, the Australian Open will be postponed for 3 weeks to be played starting from February the 8th. That would make it impossible for the Marseille’s tournament to take place on the original date.
However, as Tennis Major reported, there are plans to stage the event in France the week of March the 8th. In fact, that would clash with the prestigious ATP1000 that is supposed to play in Indian Wells. However, also this tournament is expected to be postponed to make some place for some events in Europe.
Jean-François Caujolle, tournament director of the Open 13 in Marseille, commented:
“Even behind closed doors, I will hold the tournament, because we have to play our role even if we lose money. We will obviously respect all health measures; we will apply a gauge if we are asked, whether it is a person in four or whatever.”
