Stefanos Tsitsipas was caught in a rather insane controversy in the last few days. The Greek sensation has been spending some time in London where he is rehabbing his leg and he had the chance to go around and enjoy the City. Apparently, the Greek ace was particularly taken by Harrods’ offering.
Stefanos was caught in a rather bizarre controversy after he posted a seemly innocent post saying: “Someone needs to build a Harrods in Greece. It’s about time.”
That sparked rather widespread outrage from some of his fans that basically accused Tsitsipas of losing touch with his country’s reality. The issue is that in general, tennis fans are currently not happy about seeing tennis players talking about luxury and enjoying their vacations in expensive locations during these tough times.
What Tsitsipas’ father said
Obviously, Stefanos’ tweet was completely innocent and he really didn’t mean anything bad for his beloved country. Also, it seems as the world no.6 was just hoping for more quality for Greece.
Stefanos’ father Apostolos had to intervene to state (the obvious):
“Stefanos is a person who likes quality, likes the best and believes that Greeks deserve it. Believing that Greece should have similar stores is not something bad”

Now ranked no.6, Stefanos played his last match on the 19th of November when he was defeated by Rafael Nadal 6-4 4-6 6-2 in the round robin in the Nitto ATP Finals (draw).
This season Tsitsipas owns 27-14 match record. The Greek has won 1 title in Marseille. The Greek was the runner-up in Dubai and in Hamburg.
