Dayana Yastremska parted ways with her coach, Sascha Bajin, after a disappointing run at the US Open. Hopes were high when Yastremska announced her partnership with Bajin at the beginning of the year, and the two had a great start after the Ukrainian tennis star reached the final of the Adelaide Open. The Ukrainian lost to Ashley Barty in the final, but she achieved a career-high 21st WTA ranking after the tournament. Unfortunately for the 20-year-old, her relationship with Bajin did not yield the expected results, but one specific incident on the court may have pushed Yastremska to fire her coach.
Yastremska was not happy when Bajin congratulated Osaka after a loss
In a recent interview, Alexander Yastremsky revealed that his daughter was not happy with Bajin after he congratulated Naomi Osaka for her win at the Cincinnati Masters. Bajin guided Osaka to Grand Slam victories at the 2018 US Open and last year’s Australian Open before they parted ways under mysterious circumstances. Nevertheless, Bajin congratulated the Japanese star when she defeated Yastremska 6-3, 6-1 in the round of 16 in Cincinnati. According to Alexander, Bajin’s actions infuriated his daughter, and she felt that he was not committed to their partnership.
Bajin will team up with Karolina Pliskova for the 2021 season
Yastremska’s father has admitted that she is bossy and demands appropriate attention from her coaching staff, and the sight of Bajin congratulating Osaka did not go down well with her. After another disappointing early-round exit at the US Open, the 20-year-old tennis star took to social media to announce that she had parted ways with Bajin. Yastremska has not yet named her next coach, but her father feels that she made the right decision by parting ways with Bajin. In a sly dig at the Australian coach, Alexander claimed that he was never on their team.
Despite the acrimonious ending to his relationship with the current world No.29, Bajin is still one of the most sought after tennis coaches in the world. In late November, Karolina Pliskova announced that she would be teaming up with Bajin for the 2021 season. The 28-year-old had a disappointing season in which her best result was her appearance in the Italian Open final where she lost to Simona Halep. Even though Pliskova has ranked in the top 20 of the WTA rankings since 2017, she has not won a major title in her career. It will be interesting to see whether she can get over the hump and win a Grand Slam title under Bajin’s tutelage. Fans will also be following Yastremska’s career, and the 20-year-old could be highly motivated if she matches up against Pliskova at any tournament next year.
Naomi Osaka in 2020
Ranked no.3, Naomi played her last match on the 12th of September when she beat Victoria Azarenka 1-6 6-3 6-3 in the final of the U.S. Open to win her 6th career title.
Currently, this season Naomi has a composed 16-3 win-loss record. Osaka clinched 1 title at the U.S. Open. Naomi was the runner-up in New York.
Dayana Yastremska in 2020
Ranked world no.29, Dayana played her last match on the 9th of November when she was defeated by Greetje Minnen 6-4 6-3 in the 1st round in Linz (draw).

Naomi Osaka and Dayana Yastremska played each other once. The head to head is 1-0 for Osaka. When they played, Naomi Osaka won 6-3 6-1 in the 3rd round in New York (Western & Southern Open) on the 25th of August 2020.
