This is why Dominic Thiem has changed his mind about the Olympic Games

Dominic Thiem

Dominic Thiem didn’t have any intention to compete at the Olympic Games this year. Instead, he decided to play a tournament in Kitzbuhel to get ready for the American summer. However, the Coronavirus pandemic changed everything and eventually, the Olympics have been postponed by 1 year and the world no.3 got lots of confidence after he conquered the US Open title.

Therefore, during a recent interview, Dominic confessed that he had a change of heart and he will represent his country at the upcoming Olympics that will hopefully be played in Japan in 2021.

Dominic admitted that he was lucky that the Games have been postponed. In addition, he said that he was inspired by the gestures and the emotions of Juan Martin Del Potro and Andy Murray.

“I had decided early in the year that I wasn’t going to play the Olympics and I was going to focus on the Masters events in the States and the US Open, but then obviously I saw the matches there and I saw how emotional it was for Del Potro and for Murray. Then I saw that the Olympics was very important for tennis and a great event,” he said.

Dominic will challenge the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer for Olympic glory. Given his 2020 results, he will be among the top favorites to conquer the gold.
