When Osaka announced that she was dating Cordae, a section of tennis fans argued that the relationship would be a distraction. However, the couple has managed to balance their relationship with their respective careers.

In August, Osaka withdrew from her semifinal match at the Western & Southern Open to protest the shooting of Jacob Blake in Minnesota. The Japanese star decided to resume her participation at the tournament after the organizers postponed the event for one day. Osaka continued her activism at the US Open where she wore seven different face masks that had the names of victims of police brutality. Tennis fans can agree that Osaka and Cordae have had a positive influence on each other’s lives ever since they started dating.
