Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem have already played 4 times against each other, with Dominic enjoying a 3-1 win-loss record against the Russian.
However, the pair already clashed when they were juniors. During a recent press-conference, Medvedev recalled what happened back in the days on clay when Dominic annihilated him.
“He was a finalist at Roland Garros, and he came to play this tournament, which was a surprise to everybody,” Daniil recalled. “And for sure I wanted points, it was the main goal. I was the last one to get in and I was telling my friends — because he was already a superstar among juniors — it would be nice to get a lucky loser or wildcard in the first round to try to win and then to get Dominic.
And that’s what happened on clay; he destroyed me two and zero, I think. I think I maybe made a tweener winner. Actually, I lost the memory of this match and he remembered me in some interview about it. And I had a crazy attitude on court, 10 times worse than now, and he told me after the match, ‘You’re going to have a good future maybe, but you need to be a little calmer because I was going crazy.”
