Alexander Zverev has had a good run of form since hiring David Ferrer.

Over the past few months, Alexander “Sascha” Zverev has recorded some impressive results on the tennis court. The German star appeared in his first Grand Slam final at the US Open but lost to Dominic Thiem. Sascha continued his great form at the Cologne Open where he won the competition twice in back to back weeks. At the recently concluded Paris Masters, Sascha defeated Rafael Nadal in his run to the final before losing to Daniil Medvedev. In a recent interview, Zverev admitted that hiring David Ferrer as his tennis coach had helped him improve his performances.

Sascha has attributed his recent run of form to his relationship with Ferrer

Sascha and Ferrer started working together in July, and it appears that the partnership has helped the 23-year-old star raise his game. After his recent run to the finals of the Paris Masters, Sascha claimed that his recent run of form was the product of his hard work with Ferrer during the coronavirus enforced break to the 2020 season. Ferrer helped Sascha refine some aspects of his game in their training sessions, and the German star feels that he has grown as a player ever since he started working with the Spaniard. Interestingly, Sascha was the last opponent that Ferrer played before retiring last year. While the two parties appear to be having a successful relationship, it will be interesting to see how long they work together. Throughout his career, Sascha has had a problematical relationship with his tennis coaches.

Sascha did not get along with his past two coaches

In 2018, Sascha parted ways with Juan Carlos Ferrero after they had an intense argument at the Australian Open. In an interview after the incident, Sascha claimed that Ferrero had been disrespectful to him and the other members of his coaching team, which forced him to end their relationship. The German star went on to hire Ivan Lendl, and the two had success when Sascha won the ATP Finals under Lendl’s tutelage. However, the former world number one parted ways with Sascha after they had a bitter falling out last year.

While announcing his decision to terminate his partnership with Sascha, Lendl claimed that the 23-year-old tennis star had too many distractions off the court. However, Sascha fired back by claiming that Lendl was more focused on talking about his dog and his golfing activities than coaching him on the tennis court. Despite his frosty relationship with his past two coaches, Sascha has maintained a stable working partnership with his father, Alexander Zverev Sr., who has coached him throughout his career. The German star will be in action at the ATP Finals in London next week. Going by his current form, Sascha will be favored to win his second title at the event.
