Nick Kyrgios is a unique character in the tennis world. The Australian star has had several controversial moments on and off the court throughout his professional career, but his charismatic personality has never lost its appeal to his fans. Despite the frequent drama that often accompanies him, Kyrgios recently used his fame for a charitable cause by collaborating with popular food chain Oldepaso to donate free meals to families in Australia.
Kyrgios challenged fans to share his video of the #MessFreeChallenge
The 25-year-old tennis star shared a video of himself taking part in the #MessFreeChallenge. In the video clip, Kyrgios held a tortilla pocket snack in one hand and used his free hand to play tennis on the court. The Australian star looked effortless as he returned tennis balls across the court, and he did not spill his snack. To conclude his Instagram post, Kyrgios urged fans to share the video with their friends since the Oldepaso food chain would donate 10,000 meals to the Australian food bank to benefit families in the country. After Kyrgios kicked off the #MessFreeChallenge, other tennis players have taken to social media to participate in the test, and Genie Bouchard recently posted her version of the challenge on Twitter.
Genie Bouchard and Sofia Kenin have shared their own versions of the challenge
Bouchard took a different approach while participating in the charity initiative. The Canadian recorded the challenge during her evening practice, and fans have had mixed reactions to her performance. While she did not spill her snack, the 26-year-old star struggled to return the tennis balls smoothly across the court. Nevertheless, many fans have praised her for participating in the initiative that will see 10,000 more families in Canada receive free meals from Oldepaso. Bouchard finished her video by nominating American tennis star Sofia Kenin to take up the #MessFreeChallenge.
Kenin responded to Bouchard’s request by recording a video of herself performing a tennis trick shot while holding a taco snack. The reigning Australian Open champion revealed that families in the United States would also benefit from Oldepaso’s food donations. Many tennis fans have praised Kyrgios for using the platform to challenge other players to take part in the #MessFreeChallenge. The Australian star did not play at the US and French Open this year because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. While explaining his decision to skip the events, the 25-year-old star insisted that the health and safety of the human race is more important than playing tennis. Kyrgios declared that even though the coronavirus pandemic has had a negative effect on tennis, it will still be possible to rebuild the sport. However, he argued that it would be impossible to replace the lives lost to the coronavirus. Although he has not played at an ATP tournament for some time, Kyrgios is using his voice off the court to promote important charity initiatives.
