Alexander Zverev has been going through another tough moment. It seems that the German champion can’t stay out of the limelight for the wrong reasons. Indeed, Sascha has delighted the tennis community after conquering 3 Master ATP1000 and the World Tour Finals at a very young age. However, in the last 2 years, he split with renowned coaches rather abruptly (Juan Carlos Ferrero and Ivan Lendl). He had to deal with a rough lawsuit with his former agent Mauricio Apey and he had 2 troubled relationships with former girlfriends Olya Sharypova and Brenda Patea.
Things got pretty bad in the last few days. After Brenda announced that she is pregnant with Sascha’s child, after a few hours Olya made a horrible accusation of being physically abused more than once by the German ace when they were dating back in the days.
Zverev’s statement
Sascha released a statement yet confirming that he will become a father pretty soon while he vigorously denied the accusations of domestic violence raised by Sharypova.
Talking about becoming a father, Sascha revealed that he is looking forward to raising the child and he is still in a good relationship with Brenda and therefore they are going to take care of the child together:
“The last days were quite challenging for me. I will be a father at age 23. And I am very much looking forward to the child. Even though Brenda and I are no longer together, we have a good relationship and I will live up to my responsibility as a father.
Together we will take care of the little person that is about to grow. But I don’t want to say more in public about this private subject. I am sure that Brenda and I can manage it without the media involved.”
About the domestic violence, Sascha denies the allegations to say:
“Then, there are the unfounded accusations of my ex-girlfriend Olga Sharypova, which I read in the media today. They make me very sad. We have known each other since we were children and shared many experiences together.
I very much regret that she makes such statements. Because the accusations are simply not true. We had a relationship, but it ended a long time ago. Why Olga is making these accusations now, I just don’t know.
I really hope that the two of us will find a way to deal with each other again in a reasonable and respectful way.”
The problem of Zverev’s credibility
While Sascha deserves the benefit of the doubt and hoping that Sharypova didn’t go through all that drama, the German doesn’t have much credibility when releasing this kind of statement. After the disastrous Adria Tour, the exhibition that had to be halted because players and staff members were found positive to Coronavirus, Sascha released a similar “PR statement” saying that he would self-isolate.
Unfortunately, after a few days, he was seen partying, mingling and dancing with other people breaking his pledge.
Still, we hope that Sascha will manage to find peace, and even more important, it is essential that Olya’s accusations are verified. If she is right, Sascha needs help and take responsibility for it.

Ranked no.7, Alexander played his last match on the 25th of October when he overcame Diego Schwartzman 6-2 6-1 in the final in Cologne to win his 13th career title.
Currently, this season the German has a compiled 23-8 record. Alexander clinched 2 titles in 2020 in Cologne and in Cologne. Zverev was the finalist at the U.S. Open.
