Denis Shapovalov and Kei Nishikori withdraw abruptly from the ATP1000 in Paris to end their season earlier than expected.
Denis Shapovalov
Currently ranked no.12, Denis was badly upset in his last match on the 26th of October when he lost to Jurij Rodionov 6-4 7-5 in the 1st round in Vienna.
Denis didn’t look in the best mental space against the Austrian and eventually he decided not to play the last tournament of the season in Paris so as to renounce to try to qualify for the ATP Finals.
Denis Shapovalov’s best performance in the current season was getting to the semi-finals in Rome and St. Petersburg. He will end this weird year without conquering any title.
Kei Nishikori in 2020
Currently ranked no.37, Nishikori played his last match on the 30th of September when he lost to Stefano Travaglia 6-4 2-6 7-67 4-6 6-2 in the 2nd round of the French Open.
The Japanese champion withdrew from his upcoming match in Vienna that was scheduled against home favorite Dominic Thiem. Then he also announced his retirement from the ATP1000 in Paris.
Kei has been struggling with injuries for long and he played only 6 matches this year.
