Uncomfortable Serena wins her first match of the season on clay

There was not much time for Serena to celebrate her 6th title in Miami to play her opener on the green clay in Charleston after few days.

The change wasn’t very easy for Serena that was clearly uncomfortable in the very beginning. Camilla Giorgi got it to make Serena run around the court. So Serena  lost her serve in the second game to risk to lose it again when she was 3-2 up… then game over. Serena found  her rythm to concede only 2 points on her serve in the second set.

From Serena

Talking about the change to the clay Serena commented “It was definitely not great for me. I think I played well, but I wasn’t great footing-wise. I was just trying to get my stability,”

Then she had few words for Camilla Giorgi to say “I actually have been watching her. I think she is a good player and I knew one day I’d be playing her,”
