Novak Djokovic has been playing on so many tables recently. The world no.1 has been chasing records after records and in the meantime, he has founded a controversial association with other players. The Serbian champion didn’t feel well-represented by the ATP and therefore, he set up the so-called Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA).
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer criticized the move saying that given the complicated moments, it’s not the time to disrupt. However, Novak had the best intentions. In a recent press conference in Belgrad, he disclosed that he called Nadal and Federer to have them on board before founding the association, but they refused. However, the world no.1 stressed the fact that he wished he had them on board.
Novak’s association was initially criticized for being only open to players from the ATP. However, later it was disclosed that the association would also have women on board.
During the press conference, Novak also talked about his ambitions and the fact that he has no problems in being sincere and open about goals.
Djokovic will play in Vienna next week, trying to add 500 points to his rankings so as to consolidate his world no.1 status. He will not compete in Bercy, where he is the defending champion. The reason for not playing France is that with the new ranking system, Novak will not lose the 1000 points that he conquered last year after winning the tournament.
