Federer is elated by US Open prize money rise to $50 Million

Good news for tennis. The US Open took the wonderful decision to increase the prize money of $8.1 for this year for a total of $33.6 million to get to a whopping $50 million by 2017.

This is a very important move especially to help the low ranked players to develop their career so as to also encourage more people to try to become a tennis pro.

From USTA

“With this unprecedented commitment to long-term prize money and recognition of the value that players bring to the sport, we will gain stability for the sport so that we can focus our energy on growing the game and ensuring tennis’s vitality in the U.S. for years to come,” said David Haggerty, USTA’s chairman

From Roger

“This excellent outcome for the sport of tennis wouldn’t have been possible without the open-mindedness and fairness of USTA President Dave Haggerty and the USTA staff,” Roger said.

“Everyone I have spoken with is excited about the increases in prize money, as well as the agreement to change the schedule for 2015 and beyond.”

New sheduling for the semis

Another good news comes from the fact that finally the US Open organization decided to anticipate the mens’ semifinal to Friday so as to give one day rest for the final. This was a very sensible decision as so far the men’s semis were played on saturday and the final just the day after. This made it very difficult for players that had a tough semis to win the title.

Goos news indeed!
