Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek are in a fantastic relationship and they are the last 2 grand slam winners. Naomi conquered the recent US Open after a truly inspirational run in New York as she was also carrying strong and loud the “Black Lives Matter” message. On the other part of the ocean, Iga won the French Open after an impossible 2 weeks as she conceded just 28 games in 7 matches and without dropping a single set on the way.

The Japanese backing Iga at the French Open

Naomi made it rather public that she was backing Iga for winning the Roland Garros with a series of tweets. Later she congratulated her friend for what she has achieved. After winning the French Open, Iga stressed the fact that she didn’t want to remain a 1-slam-wonder, but she has all the intention of conquering more majors.

Being as consistent as Naomi Osaka

After the Roland Garros, Iga said she would like to find consistency in her results and win more majors like her friend Naomi. She conceded that this is the biggest difference between the very best on the ATP Tours (the big3) and women’s tennis.

“I think the biggest change for me is going to be consistent. I think this is what women’s tennis is struggling with.

That’s why we have so many new grand slam winners because we are not as consistent as Rafa, Roger, and Novak. That’s why my goal is going to be consistent. It’s going to be really hard to achieve that.”

Rankings

After her recent feat in Paris, Iga broke in the top20 to be ranked no.17. If she keeps on playing like she did last week, she will definitely break in the top10 pretty soon next year. As she said, consistency is key.

Naomi Osaka in 2020

Currently ranked no.3, Osaka played her last match on the 12th of September when she beat Victoria Azarenka 1-6 6-3 6-3 in the final of the U.S. Open to win her 6th career title.

This year Osaka has a compiled 16-3 win-loss record. Naomi has won 1 title at the U.S. Open. Osaka reached the final in New York.

Iga Swiatek in 2020

Currently the world no.17 (career-high), Iga played her last match on the 10th of October when she overcame Sofia Kenin 6-4 6-1 in the final of the French Open to win her 1st career title.

Presently, this year the Pole has a compiled 16-5 win-loss record. Iga has won 1 title at the French Open.

Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek played each other once. The head to head is 1-0 for Osaka. When they played, Naomi Osaka won 7-64 6-4 in the 3rd round in Toronto (Rogers Cup) in August 2019.
