Stefanos Tsitsipas had a rather interesting run at the recent Roland Garros. The Greek sensation almost lost in the first round of the French slam after he found himself 2-sets-down against Jaume Munar. From that moment, he won 15 consecutive sets to get to the major’s semifinal in great form. However, the newly minted world no.5 lost the first 2 sets to the great Novak Djokovic. When Stefanos faced a match point against the Serbian legend in the 3rd set, everything looked lost for him. Nevertheless, The Greek sensation found his way back to win 2 consecutive sets before surrendering in the decider because of an injury.
Tsitsipas and his injury
Stefanos disclosed that he struggled with this injury during the press conference that followed the Roland Garros semifinal. According to reports, the injury was relatively serious. Tsitsipas already confirmed his withdrawal from the actual ATP500 in St. Petersburg before facing Djokovic and there were doubts about his participation in Vienna and the ATP1000 event in Paris.
The statement
Stefanos released a rather encouraging statement about his injury, confirming that there is nothing serious in reality and he has planned to play in Vienna, Paris, and the ATP Finals in London, where he will be the defending champion.
“Hey everyone,
Just wanted to say a big thank you to all my fans around the world who supported my Roland Garros journey over the past couple of weeks. My time in Paris was very positive and I gave it my all out there in the semifinal against Novak.
Unfortunately, I’ve had a minor injury in my leg, but I’ve had an MRI and examined it thoroughly. Following my doctor’s feedback, I decided to withdraw from St. Petersburg, take a week off and prepare for Vienna.
I look forward to playing there, in Paris and in London (just found out I qualified for this year and I’m so pumped to have the opportunity to defend my title there)!
I hope you all continue to stay safe in these unusual times, and hopefully we get back to life as we knew it soon.”
