Sofia Kenin’s Russian origin and her father

Sofia was born in Moscow on the 14th of November, 1998 to Alexander and Lena Kenin. Soon after her birth, her parents moved to the US and now they live in Pembroke Pines, Florida, U.S.

Her father was a taxi driver

Sofia’s parents didn’t have much money when they moved to the US and her father had to be a taxi driver during the night while he was attending an English and computer school during the day. Alex admitted that his life was extremely tough. He was also struggling to do his job as he couldn’t understand English very well, but he had to find a way to survive. Alex later admitted that his hardship allowed Sofia to learn how to be tough and that is something that is part of her tennis.

Sofia credits her father for her success. Alex introduced her daughter to tennis as he was a recreational tennis player and he always believed in Sofia even if many didn’t give much credit to her because she wasn’t as tall as other players.

While Alex remained Sofia’s main coach, he managed had her daughter train for 7 years with well-known coach Rick Macci in Florida. Rick had a huge experience with top tennis players as he coached Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, and Venus Williams.
