Rafael Nadal and Jannik Sinner engaged in a rather entertaining quarter-final at the Roland Garros. The Spanish sensation was the obvious favorite to win the match, but the 19-year-old has already demonstrated that he has the tennis to cause major upsets. Eventually, that was not the case against the King of Clay that won in straight sets. However, it’s interesting to notice that the young Italian led by 1 break in both the 1st and the second set. In the opener, Jannik had the possibility to serve-out the set when leading 6-5; in the second, he was even leading 3-1. Eventually, Jannik didn’t make it and Nadal won 7-64 6-4 6-1. Nevertheless, it was very clear that the Italian talent can play at the same level as the very best.

Nadal and Sinner’s easy power

After the match, Rafa revealed that he was stunned by Janiik’s easy power and performance. The King of Clay also stated that he was lucky to recover the (1-3) deficit he was facing in the second set.

“Sinner is a very, very young talent with a lot of power, great shots. For two sets it was tough, especially in the second set I was lucky to be back,” said Rafa.

Nadal stays in the tournament to face Diego Schwartzman in the semifinal. Jannik Sinner is expected to fly to St. Petersburg, where he will play the local ATP500 thanks to a wildcard that he has earned to play in the main draw without the need to play the qualifications.
