Ons Jabeur is one of the most talented tennis players on the WTA tour and she is currently trying to have a breakthrough run at the French Open. However, it’s well-known that the conditions in Paris are far from being perfect. The slam had to be played between September and October as it had to be postponed from May-June because of the Coronavirus pandemic. Playing the Roland Garros during Autumn means that the conditions are particularly heavy and the new Willson balls used in this Roland Garros are also rather slow.

Jabeur about Nadal and Azarenka

After her 2nd round win over Nao Hibino, Ons was asked to express an opinion about the current situations at the French Open. It was nice to see how Ons looks up to Nadal to say:

“‘Im going to be honest here. I was like, Why are we playing? Obviously, I was looking how Rafa [Nadal] was, like, taking this whole situation. To be honest, if he’s a champion and he doesn’t complain about it, I mean, who I am to complain about it right now?

I was, like, trying to always take the best out of everything. I have a very positive team behind me. They always, like, pushing me.”

Then, Jabeur talked about the problems she had in the first round with the balls and how Azarenka inspired her:

“First round was really tough with the balls, a lot of heavy, the rain. For me playing here, I’m grateful. I’m trying to take every opportunity. There is no more tournament kind of left for this season. You have to give it all.'” said Ons.

“You can see, like, the motivation out of some players. Azarenka inspired me a lot, coming from US Open, going to Rome. For me, looking at these players, champions, inspires me, gives me the motivation to go far,” she added.
