Gulbis annihilates Tipsarevic in Indian Wells

Talking about newcomers, everybody was wondering if the next one would have been Tomic, Dimitrov or Janowicz. Actually it seems that the next one is Gulbis!

The Latvian is just on fire. A couple of weeks ago he wasn’t even in the top 100. Then he won Delray Beach coming from the qualifications. In Indian Wells he got to the main draw through the qualifications once again and he dropped only 5 games with Feliciano Lopez and 2 with seed no.9 Janko Tipsarevic.

With Tipsarevic there was no match. It is rare that at this level a match lasts only 47 minutes, it is even rarer when the winner is the qualifier and the loser is a top 10 guy.

The very unusual stat is that Tipsarevic won only 37% of the points on his first serve. No surprise that he was broken 5 times.

Gulbis will play his next match against Andreas Seppi (7-5 6-4 on Daniel Brands). Head to head is 3-1 for Gulbis that won the last 3.
