Federer advances to the 4rd round in the Australian Open

After his struggle against Gilles Simon, many people were sure that Federer could not go back to his top tennis (the one displayed during the last few  tournaments).

Today the Swiss proved they were wrong. Although Malisse is not certainly a top 10 player, he had a good tournament so far. The previous match he humiliated seed number 25 Albert Montanes 6-4 6-0 6-1.

But with Swiss it was a completely different story. Federer got an early lead of 4-0 and the outlook of the day was quite ominous for the Belgian. The match finished with a telling 6-3 6-3 6-1.

The good news for Federer is that it seems he recovered his game and broke another record: he is now the guy with the most number of victories in the Australian Open (57) overtaking Stefan Edberg.

”It’s very nice,” he said. ”But he still stays as my idol, so that’s all right.”

Federer will play next against the Spaniard Tommy Robredo.
