sNaomi Osaka had a sensational run during the American swing to reach the final at the Western & Southern Open before winning the US Open. Those 3 weeks were even more remarkable if considering that the Japanese sensation was nursing a hamstring injury.
Naomi did cast some doubts about her participation in the upcoming French Open because of her physical conditions and eventually she had to pull out after publishing the following message:
“Hey guys, first and foremost thank so much for all the support over the last 3 weeks. I couldn’t have done it without you!
Unfortunately I won’t be able to play the French Open this year. My hamstring is still sore so I won’t have enough time to prepare for the clay – these 2 tournaments came too close to each other for me this time. I wish the organizers and players all the best.
Miss you guys but you’ll see me sooner than later! Love Naomi.”
Serena Williams and Ashleigh Barty
The good news is that Serena Williams is still scheduled to play the Roland Garros as she is currently training with her coach Patrick Mouratoglou in the south of France. Serena was also struggling with an Achilles injury to skip the current WTA premier event in Rome. However, there should be no problems to play in Paris.
Unfortunately, the world no.1 Ashleigh Barty decided no to play the French Open so as to skip the entire 2020 season after the global pandemic struck the world. She will be back in 2021.
