Naomi Osaka has won her 3rd slam after conquering Vika Azarenka in a hard-fought battle. Many people are focussed on the current success and the enormous amount of money that the Japanese sensation has accumulated right now, but it is also easy to forget where she is coming from.

During the press conference, Naomi took a minute in order to stress the incredible efforts done by her parents. Naomi revealed:

“I remember everything my mom sacrificed when I was younger, and she couldn’t even watch my matches. I have so many memories of her waking up at 4 in the morning, catching the bus, catching the train. I know all the sacrifices she made. Hopefully, I can repay her one day.”

Serena Williams and her tribute for her father

Naomi’s gratefulness for her parents is similar to Serena Williams’. Last year, during the US Open, Serena had a touching moment talking about her father saying:

“I remember when we were young [Serena and Venus] we went out and trained and practised and we didn’t miss a day. To have that discipline actually makes me look at myself as a player, as a parent and just really appreciate my dad so much more than I ever have in the past.”

Will Naomi and Serena play the French Open?

Serena is still chasing her 24th slam. After some initial doubts, she confirmed her participation in the upcoming French Open. On the other side, Naomi won the American major nursing a hamstring injury and she cast some doubts about playing the Roland Garros. After the American swing, Naomi is ranked no.3 and a good run at the Rolna Garros would give her some chance of approaching the world no.1 rank.

Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams played each other 3 times. The head to head is 2-1 for Osaka. The last time that they locked horns, Serena Williams won 6-3 6-4 in the quarter in Toronto (Rogers Cup) in August 2019.
