Stefanos Tsitsipas in Rome without his father Apostolos after altercation at the US Open

Stefanos Tsitsipas will not be coached by his father in Rome

Stefanos Tsitsipas And His Father Apostolos

Stefanos Tsitsipas didn’t enjoy his on-court experience in New York. The Greek sensation looked extremely strong, fit, and mentally prepared to play the American swing. However, things didn’t go that well for Stefanos that lost in the semifinal of the Western & Southern Open to Milos Raonic and in the 3rd round against Borna Coric.

Shouting at his father Apostolos that is not in Rome

The match against Borna Coric was rather brutal for Stefanos as he wasn’t able to convert 6 match points and an extremely strong lead. Unfortunately, Stefanos lost completely his cool also against his father Apostolos and at a certain point he shouted at him saying: “You don’t know”

From that moment, Apostolos started to behave rather erratically and things went more and more south for Stefanos. The Greek champion has been trained forever by his father and they have a great relationship, but that episode showed once again that it would be better for Apostolos to step back as the dual relationship father-coach is getting tricky.

Stefanos is used to travel all over the world with his father that is a stable presence in his player’s box. However, that is not the case in Rome. Is something changing?

Will Patrick Mouratoglou coach Tsitsipas?

Stefanos has been training for a long time at the academy of Patrick Mouratoglou that is Serena Williams’ coach. Stefanos and Patrick have a great relationship and the Frenchman is the “coach no.2” of Tsitsipas. However, Mouratoglou is currently the main coach of Serena Williams and he can dedicate his attention to Stefanos only on a part-time basis.  Since Serena is at the end of her career, it is legit to think that after the American legend pulls the plug, Mouratoglou will focus his attention fully on Stefanos.
