Dayana Yastremska and Sascha Bajin started their partnership in the best possible way. Sascha jettisoned Kiki Mladenovic (that wasn’t very happy about that) to partner with the Ukrainian sensation. It seemed that they had fantastic chemistry especially at the beginning.

However, things didn’t go so gloriously in 2020. The tour was stopped for long, but Dayana’s best result was just reaching the final in Adelaide. Yastremska also crashed out in the second round in both the Australian Open and the US Open.

When things started to crack

Probably there was already something going on between Dayana and Sascha, but things got really awkward when the Ukrainian ace slammed Sascha publicly on Twitter after he congratulated Naomi Osaka

after she defeated Dayana 6-3 6-1 at the Western & Southern Open.

The statement

Dayana released the following statement:

“I would like to announce that after the Us Open, I decided to stop my cooperation with Sasha Bajin. I want to thank him for everything and wish him a good luck! It was a good experience for me.”

Dayana Yastremska in 2020

Now ranked no.25, Dayana played her last match on the 2nd of September when she was overcome by Madison Brengle 6-2 6-3 in the 2nd round of the U.S. Open.

Dayana Yastremska’s most significant accomplishment of the year was getting to the final in Adelaide.
