Daniil Medvedev is about to play the US Open quarterfinal against his dear friend Andrey Rublev. Daniil looks in supreme form in the so-called bubble in New York where he reached the final 8 without dropping a single set.
Medvedev’s wife Daria
Unfortunately, Daniil will not have the pleasure of having his wife Daria with him in New York. Daniil and Daria got married on September 12, 2018 and he has always credited her for his success. Last year in Washington, he commented:
“She’s one of the most important members of my team. She gave me a lot of confidence. I always say that it’s the moment I made the proposal to her, that’s when I started to go up.
It was at this moment, it was after Wimbledon, I was, I think, 65 [ranked] or something like this, and at the end of the year, I was already 15.”
Medvedev’s coach Gilles Cervara
Medvedev has been coached since the end of 2017 by Gilles Cervara that also has the main task to calm Daniil down as the Russian champion is used to lose his cool during the matches. Gilles is often the favorite”victim” of Daniil during his on-court outburst, but after the match, they always manage to forget what has happened before.
Medvedev’s friendship with Rublev
Daniil and Andrey are great friends for a long time. During a recent tasty and funny press conference, Daniil admitted that they were both terrible when they were playing juniors, often having a huge tantrum on court. However, things progressed and they are both playing at the very top level.
Daniil said that he was very happy with Rublev’s progress to comment:
“He was always going for crazy shots, going for winners. But he was not consistent before, which was just showing in the ranking and the results.
He really progressed starting last year. I think he changed something in his mindset, in his game. Now he’s one of the best players in the world, only going up the rankings. Really happy for him.”
