HEALTH SAFETY. Why Serena Williams may not play the French Open

Serena Williams is not convinced on playing the French Open because of the safety measures that will prevent her from staying in the apartment

Serena Williams Cannot Stay In Her Apartment At The French Open

Serena Williams is currently playing the US Open, where she is 3 wins away to finally conquer her elusive  24th slam title. The French Open is about to start in a few weeks and the organization has stated that players will have to stay in a designated hotel while fans will be allowed to attend the event.

Serena Williams and her apartment in Paris

Serena owns an apartment in Paris where she is used to staying during the Roland Garros. The American sensation hoped to stay in her apartment also because she is quite scared about contracting Covid-19 given her lung issues. For this reason, Serena preferred to rent a house in New York to keep the social distancing and reduce the risks of infection.

Talking about staying in her apartment, Serena commented:

“I was hoping to stay at my apartment in Paris, but, you know, I’m just taking it a day at a time. I feel the French, they are doing the best that they can. You know, it’s hard. Every organization, every country is trying to do the best that they can in this pandemic, so I can’t point fingers and tell them what to do, because I’m not running the tournament.”

Then Serena added:

“Well, if there are fans, then we should be able to stay elsewhere, then. Yeah, that’s interesting, because there is no private housing but there are fans.”

Talking about being superconservative and really careful about social distancing, Serena added:

“I’m super conservative because I do have some serious health issues, so I try to stay away from public places, because I have been in a really bad position in the hospital a few times. So I don’t want to end up in that position again, so I don’t know. I’ll just do my best to continue to keep for me, I try to keep a 12-foot distance instead of six.”
