Even if Serena Williams and Stefanos Tsitsipas are part of different generations, they are both tennis superstars. Serena is at the end of her amazing career with 23 slams under her belt. At 22 years of age, Stefanos is still trying to win his first slam and unfortunately he just missed an important opportunity at the recent US Open after losing an impossible match against Borna Coric.
Will Patrick Mouratoglou be Stefanos Tsitsipas’ main coach?
Serena Williams’ coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, also has a rather well run Academy in the south of France that has already attracted many talents with Stefanos Tsitsipas and Coco Gauff included. While Patrick is Serena’s main coach, it could be very well possible that he will take the same role in Tsitsipas’ team after the American legend retires from tennis.
Patrick is more and more present during Stefanos’ matches and it also seems obvious that the Greek sensation has been experiencing a dysfunctional relationship with his father Apostolos that is still Tsitsipas’ main coach.
During his match against Coric at the US Open, Tsitsipas yelled violently at his father that also displayed erratic behavior after the episode. Apostolos started to move around during Stefanos’ match quite awkwardly. As per the following video, also the umpire was shocked by this situation.

The reality is that unhealthy situations may occur when a close relative is also a coach of his or her child. There are some notable exceptions (eg. Rafael Nadal and his uncle Toni), but often things can get really ugly. Sascha Zverev was also caught, reducing his father and coach in tears a couple of times. Patrick stepping in could be the right choice for Stefanos and his father Apostolos could remain his life coach as per his own words.
This was in reaction to Apostolos Tsitsipas moving around the stands between points, I believe. Few people but plenty of drama in Armstrong. #USOpen https://t.co/AO5NhxipFt
