Naomi Osaka started her US Open campaign in the name of activism. The Japanese sensation reached the Arthur Ashe Stadium with a mask carrying the name of Breonna Taylor.
Breonna Taylor was an African-American emergency medical technician that was fatally shot by Louisville Metro Police Department. Unfortunately, the officers that shot Breonna are not brought to justice as of now. Naomi Osaka’s boyfriend was arrested in July for protesting against the murder of Breonna.

After winning the first round, Naomi explained that she has prepared 7 masks hoping to get to the final at the US Open (that means playing 7 matches). Unfortunately, Osaka admitted that 7 masks are not enough as the victims of racism are many more.
“It’s quite sad that seven masks aren’t enough for the amount of names, so hopefully I’ll get to the finals so you can see all of them.”
