Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray share a very good relationship. The world no.1 and the Brit champion had a rather entertaining online conversation during the lockdown agreeing on many points. However, for once, Novak and Andy have a different opinion about Djokovic’s idea of creating a new players’ association (the Professional Tennis Players Association) to have more weight in the negotiations with the slams and the other tournaments. Novak resigned from being the President of the player council in the ATP as he wasn’t satisfied with what he could obtain in that position and he thinks that an entity that is external to the ATP will help the players.

Andy Murray’s points vs. Djokovic’ association

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have already expressed their disapproval with Novak’s idea. When asked about his position about the Professional Tennis Players Association, Andy Murray said that he didn’t support it because the new ATP management needs to have enough time to implement the proposed vision and the women are not part of the new association. The new Chairman of the ATP, Andrea Gaudenzi, took the new job at the end of last year and so far Djokovic has managed to get in the new association only players from the ATP.

This was Murray’s reply:

“I’m not totally against a player union, player association, but right now there’s a couple of things. One is, I feel like the current management that is in place should be given some time to implement their vision.

The fact that the women aren’t part of it, I feel like [that restructuring] would send a much more powerful message if the WTA were on board with it, as well. That’s not currently the case.”
