PREVIEW. Naomi Osaka explains why she is excited to play the Western & Southern Open final against Vika Azarenka

Naomi Osaka And Vika Azarenka

Naomi Osaka and Victoria Azarenka are going to face off in the Western and Southern Open final after a rather adventurous week. Naomi tamed an in-form Elise Mertens in the semifinal while Vika Azarenka managed to reverse a 1-set-down deficit against Jo Konta.

During the press conference that followed her semifinal, Naomi had mostly to reply to the questions related to his refusal to compete on Thursday to protest against the widespread racism in the US.  Finally, when asked about the upcoming final against the Belarussian, Naomi said that she was quite excited. This was her comment:

“For me, it’s really cool to be able to play Vika now, because I played her in the French last year, but I know that probably her best surface is hard court and also my best surface is hard court. I think it will definitely be a really fun match.”

Naomi Osaka and Victoria Azarenka played each other 3 times. The head to head is 2-1 for Osaka. The last time that they competed against each other, Naomi Osaka won 4-6 7-5 6-3 in the 2nd round in Paris (French Open) in May 2019.
