At 42 years of age, the legendary Bryan Brothers decided to call it a career. And what a career! Bob and Mike managed to win more than 1100 matches together, clinching 119 titles and 1 gold medal. The Bryans became famous not only for their success, but also for their joyous and enthusiastic way to interpret the sport and to stress once more the fact that doubles can be as entertaining as singles (if not more).
The Bryans have been voted as the fans’ favorite for 14 times!
As reported by the New York Times, Mike commented:
“We just both feel it in our guts that it is the right moment. At this age, it takes so much work to go out there and compete. We love playing still but we don’t love getting our bodies ready to get out there. The recovery is tougher. We feel like we were competitive this year, last year, the year before. We want to go out right now where we still have some good tennis left.”
They will be missed… a lot!
