Serena Williams has been chasing Margaret Court’s record for 2 years. The American legend has 23 slams under her belt and she would love getting her 24th so as to match the all-time record hold by Margaret Court. After her complicated pregnancy, Serena reached 4 slams finals, but she was defeated on all these occasions in straight sets. It seems that Serena is putting too much pressure on her and tension keeps on kicking in during the important moments.

Serena and Margaret Court’s record

Former world no.1 and tennis legend Lindsay Davenport thinks that Serena has the wrong mental approach right now saying that it is unnecessary for Serena to put so much pressure on herself also because she is part of a completely different era than the one of the Australian champion.

“Some of Margaret Court’s Grand Slams were only played with Australians or small draws. I don’t know, Serena has the Open Era record. I think she has it already. But there’s this fascination to get to 24 or 25 and that’s kind of put this almost unneeded pressure on her.”

Will Serena win the US Open?

Serena has just lost a tough encounter against Maria Sakkari in New York after being unable to serve out the match when she was leading 7-5 5-3. That caused a complete meltdown for the American champion. The big question mark is if she is mentally fit to conquer the US Open, She has the tennis, the experience, and the heart, but something more is needed and soon!
