Serena Williams is currently in New York where she is about to start her run at the Western & Southern Open before trying to win her elusive 24th slam at the US Open. The American sensation has chosen not to stay at the hotel with the other players, but to stay in a private house as she is really scared about the Coronavirus because she has lung issues.
It is well-known that the mortality rate among athletes and young people is quite low when infected by Covid-19, however, preexisting conditions can make things extremely dangerous if someone is infected.
A few weeks ago, Serena explained that she was very careful during the lockdown for her condition and now Serena commented:
“I didn’t want to be in the hotel because I have lung issues, so I felt like it was actually a big risk for me personally.
At my house, I can control more. There is no housekeeping, there is none of that type of stuff. And so, I mean, as much as I want to be here, it’s great, but I have genuine health issues that I just really needed to put my mind at rest to even be able to perform in New York.”
