Eugenie Bouchard has been through a rather interesting career so far. The Canadian beauty was initially appreciated for her fantastic accomplishments on court. At 20 years of age, Genie seemed to be destined for greatness. In 2014, she reached the final in Wimbledon and the semifinals at both the Australian Open and the Roland Garros. Unfortunately, things started to go in the wrong direction after she reached the final in Wuhan. In the following WTA Finals, she recorded the worst performance in the history of the tournament after winning only 11 games in 3 matches.

The “Bikini period”
Genie’s plummeting on court coincided with Bouchard’s modeling. The Canadian took advantage of her amazing figure to amass a huge following on social media mainly by posting pictures of her posing in bikini. However, as per Genie’s admission, while that was great for the endorsements, the attention was diverted a bit too much from her tennis to her (great) appearance.
During a recent interview with tennis.com, Genie commented:
“If someone calls you and is like, ‘Hey, do you want to be in Vogue, yes or no?’ What are you going to do, say no? And tennis brought me that opportunity, so it’s like, of course, I’m a tennis player first and foremost, but it opened other doors,” she said.
However, Bouchard admitted that she has enough about posting pictures of her body continuously also because of the negative comments. She commented:
“I really try to refrain from posting bikini pictures. I really do. I’m trying my best. Apparently, if you post that it means you don’t play tennis or something. It’s influenced a little bit how I act. Maybe I’m just getting more mature and I’m like, ‘Look, I’m not going to post butt pictures every day’.”
“I went through the whole spectrum of wanting to post, not wanting to post, being scared, being like, ‘eff all of you guys, I’m going to still live my life’.
“I just don’t even care anymore, it’s just exhausting. 100% percent (helped with the followers). The number one question brands ask is, ‘what’s the following?’ It’s all about that… It’s a way of valuing people, I guess, which is superficial in a way, we’re all human, but it’s a way to put a number on people
Back on track?
Genie impressed during the recent tournament in Prague where she reached the quarters. The Canadian seems to be back to a “grinding” mentality to get ready to go up again in the rankings. Unfortunately, it seems that from a “tennis point of view” she has squandered the last 6 years. Still, she has the full potential to get back to former glory. Let’s hope so, it was great seeing her playing good tennis.
