It was pretty clear that Stan wasn’t happy to play the US Open as recently it was training mainly on clay that is his favorite surface.
Talking to RTS Sport, Stan explained why he will not go to the States.
“I don’t want to go to the United States under these conditions. There is a health situation that is particular in New York. And the sequence of tournaments which follows after the US Open will be tough.
If the Washington tournament had been maintained, we would have been entitled to a real tour. It could have played on my choice. And finally, there are all the uncertainties related to the quarantine issue. There are still many questions and doubts about the holding of the US Open.”
Now the world no.17, Stanislas played his last match on the 27th of February when he surrendered to Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 6-4 in the quarter in Acapulco. Stan Wawrinka’s best result of this season was reaching the semi-finals in Doha.
Sta will play 2 back to back challengers on clay in Prague from the 17th of August to the 30th.
Gael Monfils
Gael also didn’t seem to happy to go to the States. Eventually, he followed his girlfriend Elina Svitolina in choosing not to compete in the American slam.
