Sloane Stephens and Jamie Hampton to face Italy in Fed Cup tie

The new and young American faces are getting to the international stage.

The Williams sisters won’t be able to play the Fed Cup as they have to cope with their injuries. That would not be a huge blow as the new American sensation Sloane Stephens will lead her team in Rimini with great hopes after her wonderful Australian Open.

Stephens will be joined by world no.21 Varvara Lepchenko (first Davis Cup) and world no.61 Jamie Hampton.

The Americans will face a sticky Italian team represented by Sara Errani (no.7) and Roberta Vinci (no.16). In theory Italy is the favorite, but when Sloane Stephens plays… you never know!

U.S. Fed Cup Captain Mary Joe Fernandez commented “I am excited to welcome some new, young players to the U.S. Fed Cup team when we travel on the road to face Italy and begin our 2013 quest for the Fed Cup,”

“Italy is a championship team and always plays well in Fed Cup competition, but I have confidence in the players on this team and know that they will all be ready to compete hard for the U.S.”
