Bartoli, Kvitova win opener in Paris. Vinci upset

Marion Bartoli seems to be on the roll. After the confirmation of her comeback to the Fed Cup after a 9 years hiatus, the French seems to have found new optimism.

Marion defeated rising star Christina McHale in 7-5 6-1 in 85 minutes scoring 70 oints against McHale’s 52.

“I’m very happy to return to Fed Cup,” Bartoli said “The communication was always there with Amelie, it happened bit by bit.

“I talked a lot with my dad. He supported me in my project and in my decision because he only wants me to be happy,”

In the other amtches of the day seed no.2 Petra Kvitova defeated qualifier Stefanie Voegele 7-6 (5) 6-3 in 84 minutes. This is still not a good result for Petra as she is expected to have “an easier life” against the world no 100.

Finally, Roberta Vinci has been upset by Mona Barthel. This is not a complete surprise as the German has quite an erratic tennis and is she get a good day… well she can win with everybody on indoor hard courts.

In the next round Mona Barthel will play against Marion Bartoli to understand if she can keep up with a good tennis level.
