Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams are among the top players in the entry list of the upcoming Western & Southern Open. While it seems to be sure that Djokovic and Serena Williams will compete in the event there are still doubts about Nadal. The Spaniard is part of the entry list, but it seems that he has been training only on clay so as to skip the US swing.
However, there are also some doubts about the possibility of some events to be staged in Europe as the Mutua Madrid Open might be canceled. Therefore, Rafa could be committed to playing in the US.
The Prize Money
The organization has announced the prize money and there is a rather strong difference on how the income is redistributed. The ATP has decided to help the players that lose in the qualifications and the early rounds. On the other side, the WTA has decided to keep on compensating more the top players that reach the later stages of the tournaments.
Therefore the ATP Champion will have his prize money to be reduced by 26% earning 42.8 times more than a player losing in the first round of the qualifications and 11.6 times a player that loses in the first round.
On the WTA side, the champion will earn 145.7 times more than a colleague losing in the 1st round of the qualifications and 36.7 times more of a player losing in the 1st round.
