Roger Federer has been answering about his retirement plans for more than 10 years. The press has been asking this question since he completed his career slam following his Roland Garros title in 2009. However, at almost 39 years of age, it’s pretty clear for Roger that the retirement is getting closer and closer.
During a recent interview with SportsPanorama, the Swiss Maestro revealed that he will keep on playing tennis also when he is going to be old and being a pro is a thing of the past.
“Since I won the French Open in 2009, the media has been chopping on this topic. But it is already clear that I am at the end of my career. I can not say what will be in two years. That’s why I plan year after year. I’m still happy right now. But when the cogwheels don’t grip anymore, I stop.
When I am old, I will definitely still play tennis. But no longer train, just ball,” said Roger.
Federer and his comeback for the Australian Open
The Swiss Maestro had to endure a double operation to his right knee this year. Unfortunately, the first procedure didn’t go extremely well and Roger had to go under the knife for the second time. Federer is now satisfied with his recovery and he is already working on his fitness. His target is to come back for the Australian Open
and he might even play a warm-up tournament before that.
